Does it cost anything to Rush?

No, registering for fraternity rush is free. All you have to do is show up and have a good time.

Are the dorms open during Rush Week?

Yes, dorms open the morning of Monday, January 12, before any actual rush events start.

Is joining a fraternity expensive?

Although the costs differ from chapter to chapter, it is often less expensive to live in a fraternity house than it is to live in the dorms or Collegetown. Take a look at our Fraternity Life page to learn more.

Do you have to be a freshman to rush in the spring?

No, Spring Rush is open to all current undergraduate students, regardless of class year. Fraternities often take sophomores and even juniors as part of their spring pledge classes.

Can I still rush even though I already signed a lease for next year?

Yes, although living in a fraternity house is encouraged and can enhance your Greek experience, it is not a requirement for joining a fraternity. Many students who have already signed leases and housing contracts choose to rush and pledge a fraternity.

What’s the story with hazing?

Cornell has a strict anti-hazing policy by which all fraternities and sororities must abide. Hazing is not a part of the Greek experience at Cornell, and there is zero tolerance for such conduct. To learn more about Cornell’s hazing prevention effort, visit www.hazing.cornell.edu.
